Arts Education
Our school’s Arts Education comprises Music and Visual Arts curricula. Arts Education has
always been a significant component in our curriculum. Its primary goal is to allow students
to receive an all-round education. Over the years, we have provided numerous opportunities
for students to develop their talents and interests through exploring the heights of artistic
expressions.
With regard to Music Education, Music lessons are offered to F.1 to F.3 classes. We stress
greatly on music creativity, music appreciation and western and oriental music cultures. These
elements are cultivated through encouraging students to create music for school musicals
as well as attend Chinese Opera performances and western orchestral concerts. Singing in
English has also been an essential feature in Music lessons, designed to enable students to
immerse in a language-rich and relaxing environment. Apart from the formal curriculum, all
F.1 students are required to learn and play a musical instrument through the ‘One Student One
Instrument’ Programme. Launched since 2011, the programme has allowed a large number of
students to engage in instrumental experience. For those who excel in their instruments, they
join the School Orchestra which has been fully developed since the early years of the school in
the 1970s. Our School Choir, School Orchestra and School Musical Crew provide diversified
opportunities for our students of all forms to acquire music literacy, enhance their ability of
YEARS OF EXCELLENCE music appreciation and master the practical techniques of musical production. Students who
find themselves interested in pursuing further studies in music are not only encouraged to join
the HKDSE joint course with sponsorship from the school, but they are also nominated to be
music ambassadors inside and outside school.
40 Coupled with Music Education is Visual Arts Education. Regular Visual Arts lessons are
offered to F.1 to F.3 classes on a weekly basis. Our curriculum aims to strengthen students’
skills, knowledge and positive values and attitudes in arts. For senior form students who have
passion for art and desire to study further in visual arts or pursue careers related to the creative
sector, they may choose HKDSE Visual Arts as one of their elective subjects. Over the years,
many graduates have furthered their studies or pursued careers in the field of performing arts
as well as art and design.
To enhance students’ enjoyment in visual arts, enrichment activities are provided to all
students such as Art Club, museum and gallery visits, artist workshops, inter-school art
programmes, etc. In addition, students are encouraged to participate in local and international
art competitions to unleash their artistic talents and potentials. Besides music ambassadors,
visual arts ambassadors are nominated annually to join the Arts Ambassadors-in-School
Scheme run by Hong Kong Arts Development Council since 2008.
We believe, through Arts Education, all students can develop their aesthetic sensitivity and
artistic potentials that nurture an individual’s quality of life as well as empower students to
meet the aesthetic and creative needs of the community.
