Embrace the Challenge

STCC strongly values the whole-person development of our student’s and we
consistently aim to nurture their local identities and global perspectives. The Life-
wide Learning (LWL) programme provided our students with opportunities to learn
through practical experience and reflection. It gave our students chances to acquire
certain skills that are difficult to attain through classroom learning alone. It not only
widened our student’s horizons but it also provided a foundation for them to develop
the life-long learning capabilities that are needed in our ever-changing societies,
            environmental landscapes and global horizons.

With the contribution and dedication from our devoted teachers, STCC’s LWL
programmes offered 11 overseas tours and 6 local excursions that catered to our
student’s different learning expectations, abilities and academic subjects. The tours
served to extend our student’s knowledge past the classroom curriculum. All of our
students were high in spirit and absorbed the cultural experiences and new-ways of
schooling, with open hearts and minds.

Believe it or not, I was inspired by their personal and intellectual growth. I could see
that the tour not only opened their eyes individually, but through interacting with
each other, students developed their interpersonal communication skills and manner
towards one another. They learnt how to support, love and care for each other, as
well as the world around them. Many of them had a change in attitudes towards the
environment and have become more conscious about waste and resources, but, most
importantly, each student has become a more independent person and has gained
the ability to apply problem solving techniques to their daily lives, their futures and
            ultimately, the whole world.

A student’s learning footprint should not stay in school. As a principal, I do expect that
STCC students will explore the world with excitement and curiosity, and I am confident
that the new skills and qualities obtained through the LWL programme will have
prepared all my students for a successful and adventurous journey ahead.
