An Inward and
Outward Journey
Outward bound to Toronto, the capital city of the province of Ontario, the most populous city in Canada. It’s a
multicultural city and the country’s financial and commercial centre, and because of this, thousands of students
come from different countries to strive for their dreams.
STCC organised a tour to Toronto for senior students to explore the education system, school life, business
activities and economic landscape of Canada. We hoped that this memorable experience would ignite sparkle
into our student’s minds and hearts so they could set out a clear journey towards their dreams.
We visited three top-ranking universities: University of Toronto, University of Waterloo and Ryerson University.
International students were our tour guides. One student not only showed the locations where students
cluster together or study in, but she also told us how she complemented her studies and engaged in campus
community—as an alien.
Another highlight for this trip was the visit to the Toyota Production Plant. Through visualising the Just-in-Time
processing system, we were amazed by the complicated, highly interdependent but smooth production process.
We also explored the culture and operations of the service industry, and paid a visit to a branch of the largest
bank in Canada, the Royal Bank of Canada. Its customer orientated focus was a stark contrast to our traditional
focus on profit in Hong Kong’s financial institutions.
As we expected, the whole journey was enriched by the natural environment and framed beautifully by the
man-made architecture of Canada. But most of all, our students undertook an inward-looking journey through
reflecting on their current student lives and setting their expectations on overseas study and their future life goals.
