2017 Lunar New Year Fair Stall - an unforgettable experience
5C Au Yeung Lok To
From 22 Jan to 28 Jan 2017, the S5 BAFS
students operated a Lunar New Year Fair stall at
Victoria Park, putting our business knowledge into
practice. What we have learnt in this experience will
surely stand us in good stead in future.
The work actually started months before as we
had to decide on what to sell. Taking into account
that this is the Year of the Rooster, we planned to
design something festive and finally chose to have
a chicken cushion which can be transformed into a
U-shaped pillow as the main product. Next was the
trip to Guangzhou! Miss Szeto took us to a wholesale
market to purchase goods for resale in the fair and
to find manufacturers to produce our designs. The
trip, as it turned out, was a one-of-a-kind shopping
experience for us. The market was enormous with
a wide range of Lunar New Year products. Initially
feeling overwhelmed, we set out to compare the
products and prices of different shops as we just had
a limited budget but the products must be innovative
and appealing to the customers. It was a long day of haggling with the wholesalers, but in the end we
brought home the goods we wanted, as well as a close friendship with each other.
Coming back from Guangzhou, we needed to wrap up the preparation work to get ready for the actual
operation. Therefore, right after fi nishing the mid-term examination, we dived in the assorted preparatory
tasks. Some of us checked the quality of the products and did packaging while some made the promotion
materials. Although some classmates were quite passive at the beginning, they were impressed by the
devotion of the others and picked up steam. Miss Szeto was also there encouraging us, emphasizing the
importance of preparation and cooperation. In the end we managed to fi nish all the jobs satisfactorily.
Finally, the New Year Fair stall started! During the seven-day event, we encountered lots of both ups
and downs. When some customers bought our goods just because we are CCSC students, we were thrilled
and felt really proud. Actually every time a product was sold, we had an immense sense of achievement as
it meant either our products were appealing or our selling techniques were effective. On the other hand, the
weather turned out to be the biggest challenge to overcome. In the afternoon we nearly melted under the
burning sun. However, when evening came, gusts of winds blew past us and made us chill. Luckily, none of
us got sick and only our throat turned hoarse due to shouting and screaming ardently for business.
