舉行「學習周」 嘗試不同學習方式
為發掘上課的各樣可能性，設計讓學生在任何地方都
可以投入學習的新方式，本校舉行「學習周」，全校
中一至中五級同學在2019年5月20日至24日這一個星
期，走出課室，赴美國、烏魯木齊、貴州、上海、福
建及本地的不同地方，透過比賽、參觀、交流、導賞
團、工作坊等方式學習，最後與同儕分享所學所得，
以提升學習效能。
緊貼世界教育潮流 推廣STEM普及化
惠及香港學界
本校與英國學校同步，在2016年9月率先應用微型電
腦板Micro:bit，在中一至中三級電腦科課堂，全面推
行以Micro:bit學習程式編寫，推動學生創新。中二及
中三級同時要學習使用Arduino及SAM Labs電子套
件，透過「做中學習」(Learning by Doing) 方式來提
升學習成效。
本校全速發展的數理科技(STEM)教育成果獲各方肯
定，更肩負上推廣的使命，已連續第二年獲教育局委
任為「資訊科技教育卓越中心」，向全港中、小學提
供資訊科技教學支援服務。同時，連續第二年成功
申請「優質教育基金主題網絡計劃」，兩年共獲撥
款$650多萬，推行「透過Micro:bit促進中小學創意
STEM教育」計劃，優化現有Micro:bit課程，並推廣
到不同的中、小學，為教師提供培訓，支援本港學校
的STEM教學發展。
過去4年間，本人及教師團隊已為本地和國內外教育
伙伴主講超過130場教學分享會，又接待了120多間
本地和國內外學校或機構，到來參觀STEM教學設備
及交流相關教學經驗，希望能為他們推動STEM教育
帶來啟發。
在香港學界層面上，自2017年開始至今，本校已連
續舉辦了3屆「創意思維世界賽香港區賽」，可能是
本港唯一舉辦國際賽事地區賽的津貼中學。2019年
的地區賽選拔了來自28間學校的33支隊伍，共314人
組成了聯校代表團，於2019年5月到美國密歇根州立
大學，參加「創意思維世界賽」。此行讓大家眼界大
開，收穫滿滿。我們會繼續舉辦是項大型國際賽事，
希望能為香港學生帶來更多的海外學習交流體驗。
致力培養學生人文素養
除了重點發展STEM外，培養學生的人文素養是另一
重點。人文素養涉及很多層面，除了強化在藝術、歷
史、社會等方面的知識，更著重的是進一步的陶冶，
培養學生發展藝術賞析能力、對人與社會的關懷、具
有正確的人生價值觀等等的素養。
在人文學科方面，各級透過本地、內地及國外參觀、
遊學交流、實習、義工服務，甚至交換生計劃，增廣
見聞，推動人文活動教學。此外，本校注重校園環境
的綠化和美化，持續改造校舍不同部份，例如加設時
尚舒適的學生Café，又把地下走廊改造成極富現代
感的共享學習空間等，優美的環境有助培養同學對藝
術的欣賞和對美學的追求。另外，義工服務已成為本
校學生的校園生活一部份，有助培養學生具有關懷社
會、人人樂助的人文情懷，例如舉辦「小學體育義工
服務計劃」讓學生為小學母校服務，在運動會擔當義
工，藉此宣揚「念舊感恩、不忘根本」的美德。還
有，本校以「有夢最美」作為學生生涯規劃的主題，
幫助學生了解自己，發展所長，朝人生的目標進發。
本校亦鼓勵學生參加校內、校外比賽，以增進學生的
榮譽感，從而培養積極正面的態度。
相信，青年會書院的學生將會是科學素養和人文素養
兼備的21世紀學習者，能以自强不息的態度應對21
世紀的挑戰和機會。
Excursion Week A Different Way of Learning
To discover the various possibilities of learning, an excursion week was held last
school year. During the week from May 20 to 24 2019, all the students went
out of the classroom and went to different places in the United States, Urumqi,
Guizhou, Shanghai, Fujian and the local areas to learn through competitions, visits,
exchanges, guided tours, and workshops. Students have shared their valuable
learning outcomes with peers.
Keeping Pace with Global Trends
Promoting STEM to Hong Kong Education Sector
Our school started to keep in pace with the British schools in 2016: using Micro:bit,
a tiny programmable computer, in Computer Literacy lessons across S.1 to S.3
classes; and using ‘Arduino’ and SAM Labs in S.2 and S.3 classes. This aims to
enhance students’ learning motivation through ‘Learning by Doing’.
The teaching and learning outcome of our STEM education has been affirmed by
other parties in society. We have also shouldered the mission of promoting STEM
education. The school has been appointed by the Education Bureau as the ‘IT in
Education Centre of Excellence (CoE)’ for the second consecutive year to offer
support to other primary and secondary schools on the implementation of IT in
Education. At the same time, we have successfully applied for the QEF Thematic
Network (QTN) on ‘CreaSTEMtivity by Micro:bit’ for the second year. More than $6.5
million grant has been offered to us in two years to provide training and materials
to the teachers of primary and secondary schools to support the development of
STEM education through making use of Micro:bit.
For the past four years, my teaching team and I have run over 130 sharing sessions
on STEM for mainland and overseas education partners. We have also received
over 120 local and overseas schools and organizations to visit our teaching facilities
and exchange experiences to promote STEM education.
Since 2017, our school has been organizing the Odyssey of the Mind Hong
Kong Regional Tournament. It may be the first of its kind that a subsidized school
organizes a Hong Kong Regional Tournament of world competition. In the last
tournament, 33 teams from 28 schools were selected to compete in the World
Finals in Michigan State University in the US. The trip opened the eyes of the
students participated. We will continue to run this educational event and hope it can
bring more STEM exchange experience to Hong Kong students.
Committed to Improving Students' Qualities of Humanities
We believe that both science and humanities qualities are equally important. Apart
from strengthening knowledge in arts, history, and society, humanity literacy focuses
on the edification and cultivation of students' ability on art appreciation, caring for
people and society, and having positive life values.
The Humanities curriculum in all forms involve visits, internships, volunteer services,
study tours, and even exchange programs to broaden students’ knowledge and
cultivate them with ‘glocalization’ of humanities knowledge and literacy. Besides,
the school pays attention to the greening and campus environment and continues
to renovate different parts of the campus. For instance, we have renovated a corner
of the canteen to be a stylish and comfortable student Café and transformed the
corridor at G/F into a modern Learning Commons. The beautiful environment helps
students appreciate art and pursue aesthetics.
Furthermore, volunteer service has become part of the campus life of students. It
helps develop students' humanist feelings of caring for the community and helping
others. For example, the ‘Volunteer Service Scheme for Primary School Sports
Event’ is held to enable students to serve as volunteers on the sports day of their
alma mater, hoping students can learn how to cherish old friendships. Moreover,
the school takes ‘Dream is beautiful’ as the theme of students' life planning, helping
students to understand themselves, develop their strengths, and move toward their
goal of life. The school also encourages students to participate in on-campus and
off-campus competitions to enhance their sense of honour and foster a positive
attitude.
It is believed that the students of the Chinese YMCA College will be the 21 st
century learners with both the qualities of Humanities and Science and will be able

to respond to the challenges and opportunities of the 21 century with a spirit of
continuous self-improvement.
