English

This year has been an exciting and eventful one for
the English Department. Students have worked hard
and achieved some excellent results across all of the
stages from KS3 through to IB DP. In addition, we have
participated in some great events and competitions
(see below.) Thank you to both students and teachers
for their hard work and participation in making this year
          in English a success.

                                            Hong Kong English Speech Festival

Year 7 students Cleo Po (7F), Winona Tjai (7M), and Year 13 student
Anastasia Mi (13N/B) participated in the 70th Hong Kong English Speech
Festival. After months of rehearsing both in and out of school leading up
to the competition, all three students received a Certificate of Merit (80-89
marks) for their participation in the Solo Verse Speaking competition. Well
                                            done!

                                            Inter-House Battle of the Books

Another great event for the English and Chinese Departments with a closely
fought battle. See the Special Events section for all the details.

Hong Kong Battle of the Books
This year saw the first time that the KCCIS (Secondary) has participated in
the inter-school Hong Kong Battle of the Books competition. After two terms
of reading and preparing with Ms. Bou and Ms. Claypole during our weekly
Monday Battle of the Books ECA, our students competed against the host
school, KGV, Creative Secondary School, and St. Paul's Secondary School in
twelve exciting rounds of battles to test their knowledge of the 20 books from
the HKBOB reading list. While we didn't place, our school team thoroughly
enjoyed the competition as we had the opportunity to read and share an array
of excellent books in preparation for the event while building teamwork skills.
Moreover, meeting and working with students from other schools who share
our love of books and reading was a wonderful and enriching experience for all
involved. We are already looking forward to next year’s competition and cannot
wait to start reading. The following students represented KCCIS (Secondary) in
2019 Hong Kong Battle of the Books competition:
