Letter To Organ Donor
(Senior Section) 4D Chloe Chan Jing Tong
Dear Savior and your family members,
I am writing to give thanks and to show my appreciation towards your decision
of giving me a new life. Although you are not going to see this letter, I still hope that
your family members will understand how mighty you were to me and how grateful I
am for your selfless action.
Last year, I was a strong and healthy climber. At that time, I was fully engaged
in rock climbing and I practised almost every day without showing any symptoms
of heart disease. One day, I climbed up the cliff as usual and I noticed that my body
was not fully functioning. Later on, my sense of foreboding came true, as my heart
was pumping at an extreme speed and I could hardly breathe. Fortunately, I called
for help in time. I was airlifted to the hospital immediately and I survived.
At first, I never realized the severity of my condition thinking that a rest would
cure the problem, and I could continue with my favourite sport. However, the most
horrifying diagnosis from the doctor came – heart failure. Despite the fact that I have

patient of thalassemia, an inherited blood disorder. The doctor also told me that the
only way that I could live on was to find a new heart for replacement. It was such a
big blow to me! I wasn’t scared of having a surgery, but I was afraid of dying.
I was put at the top of the transplant waiting list, yet, after waiting for over
half a year, there was still no good news. I was in despair as I waited desperately
for a heart donor. The others who were also on the waiting list passed away one
by one while I kept my fingers crossed. For once, God did not disappoint me. The
doctor said that a donor with a healthy heart had just passed away in an unfortunate
accident and I would be able to have the operation right away.
Thanks to the donor, ‘My Savior’, I am able to have a life again! The doctor told
me that I could climb after my recovery. It was the best news that I have ever heard!
I am now living like I was before – strong and healthy. My family and friends were
very glad to have me back again and I am forever grateful to you for saving my life.
I now fully understand the importance of helping others because the act is priceless.
Moreover, though I am not sure why, I have started liking chocolate a lot after the
