The Creative Collection of the Budding Writers
possibly save her life? It is a philosophical notion that yields no easy answer.
The narrating style in each chapter of the book further enhances this effect
since I felt like swapping roles between all the important characters like Anna, Kate,
their parents, their brother, and Campbell. Readers are placed in this many-faceted
privileged perspective that empowers us to read everyone’s heartfelt emotions or
messages, the spinning of which propelled me to follow closely the development of
the story all the way as it escalates to its final end. In a way, the story also raises
issues of role, functions of family and bio-ethics that can stir up meaningful debate.
However, the story is not without its drawbacks. Anna dies abruptly in the end
though she has experienced a lot in the upcoming time for a change for the better
and grows more like from a subordinate to an independent being. It seems such
a pity that she dies in such an unexpected accident and all her efforts have gone
futile.
I would recommend this book to everyone who likes serious discussion on
ethics, although the story itself sets in an unusual background and may hardly
occur in reality. I like the part that Kate tells Anna that she does not want to undergo
treatment again. Not only does it reveal the true feelings of Kate, but also shows the
care and courage of Kate towards her family members.
While I was reading the book, I understood one thing — we need to cherish
every moment. As the Latin maxim goes, ‘Carpe Diem,’ which means seizing every
day. No one knows what will happen next, so I will cherish life and live life to its
fullest extent.
My Sister’s Keeper is a good read. I would give this book 9 out of 10.
