Letter: Advice To Michelle, An Ex-classmate
5C Kelly Chui Pui Ki
Dear Michelle,
Hey, I was sorry to read about your problem. I hope you are feeling better now.
Actually, I was in the same situation you are in a few years ago. My parents
scolded me every day at that time. They always told me not to spend so much time
on the Net and that I needed to spend all my time on learning and focus on my
schoolwork. I was very distressed about this and thought about the same questions
as you do. Now, the problem has been solved. Let me advise you what you can do!
First, you should have a talk with your parents. Tell them the Internet helps
you learn better. For example, show them the websites and videos which you have
found on the Internet. Chatting with native speakers online or messaging on social
networking sites are also effective ways to brush up your English. You should not
dispute them, as this will damage your relationship and make them reprimand you
more. You should talk to them politely, make them know that you use the Internet for
serious learning.
Regarding talking on the phone, you should tell them why you often do so.
Your social life may have changed a lot after your family moved to Tung Chug and
you are studying in a new school now. Although teachers and students are nice to
you, you still feel kind of isolated and lonely. So, your attempt to talk on the phone
or meet friends online is understandable. All of us have the right to meet friends.
Besides, you are in a completely new living environment and you may feel uneasy
about things happening around you. You would need your old friends to support
you before you can make new ones. I am confident that they will understand your
situation.
I hope this kind of sincere talk can help
you to persuade your parents. I miss you
very much, Michelle. Maybe we can meet
during holidays. Tell me when you are free for
shopping and to have fun together. Looking
forward to seeing you!
Love,
Kelly
