overseas degree often return to work in their home
country. Consequently, this poses a huge threat
and challenge to those from Hong Kong. There
is, therefore, no significant advantage for local
graduates over their mainland counterparts. In fact,
they might have a better resume than yours!
Fourth, air pollution has always been a
major concern of many Hong Kong people. Big
metropolises like Shanghai and Beijing have
long known to be suffering from air pollution. The
severe air pollution due to industrial activities
and proliferation of private cars have seriously
damaged China’s image. In addition, air pollution has caused a health crisis in
China. Respiratory diseases are widespread and affecting people from province
to province. More and more young people are even getting cancer in China.
Remember the shocking image that everyone in the street has to wear a face mask
in winter when the problem is at its worst? Would you still want to live and work
there? I certainly wouldn’t want a job in a city that could bring me bad health and a
bonus of lung cancer!
It is obvious that working in the mainland
is not as attractive as some people may think,
so why not stay and try your luck in Hong Kong
instead? It is always better to work in a place
that you were born and raised in than going to
some unknown territories. The unemployment
rate in Hong Kong may be high, but there are still
many opportunities out there. Besides, shouldn’t
the fresh graduates try to repay our society by
contributing to the city before venturing out?
