CAS, EE and TOK
CAS
This year, a new set of Year 12’s embarked on
their CAS journey. CAS stands for Creativity,
Activity and Service. Within these three strands,
students take part in experiences that allow
students to demonstrate these three components.
Over the course of the last year, students have
been of service, not only to their school, but
also the wider community in Hong Kong. They
have initiated and taken the lead in beach clean
ups in Sai Kung, as well as working with local
organisations such as Food Angel to help prepare
and deliver food for the elderly and less fortunate.
Students have taken part in activities to help
live healthy, active lifestyles such as: basketball,
boxing classes and dance classes. They have
also developed their creative sides by taking
part in experiences such as cooking classes,
dance choreography and artistic workshops. It is
encouraging to see students looking to develop
themselves as well-rounded individuals who give
back to their local community.
TOK
TOK is a course about critical thinking
and inquiring into the process of knowing,
rather than about learning a specific
body of knowledge. It is a core element
which all Diploma Programme students
undertake. The TOK course examines how
we know what we claim to know. It does
this by encouraging students to analyse
knowledge claims and explore knowledge
questions. The TOK course identifies eight
specific ways of knowing (WOKs). They
are: languageႧԊ, sense perception
ช֜ชٝ, emotionชઋ, reason
પଣ, imaginationซ྅, faithڦ
, intuitionٜᙂand memoryাኳ.
It distinguishes between eight areas of
knowledge (AOKs). They are: mathematics
ᅰኪ, the natural sciencesІ್߅ኪ,
the human sciencesɛ˖߅ኪ, the arts
ᖵஔ, historyዝ̦, ethicsࡐଣኪ,
religious knowledge systems֚ٝᗆ
ӻ , and indigenous knowledge systems
