Battle of the Books
Like previous years, students participated in the exciting
Inter-House Battle of the Books competition on March
th
7 . Leading up to the day, students in each of the four
houses read a selection of books drawn from the Hong
Kong Battle of the Books Book List. For this year’s
competition, the following titles were chosen: Ice Dogs
by Terry Lynn Johnson, See you in the Cosmos by Jack
Cheng, Uglies by Scott Westerfeld, When You Reach Me
by Rebecca Stead, Hello Universe by Erin Entrada
Kelly, and When Friendship Followed Me Home by
Paul Griffin (Bonus Question: Which member of the
English department was responsible for choosing all
the books with dogs in them?). All in all, it was a fun
and enthusiastic afternoon of battling as the questions
increased in difficulty after each round and who can
forget the adrenaline pumping audience rounds? As
always, special thanks to Ms. Gerlach for organizing
this epic event and the English and Chinese department
teachers for running and supporting the annual
competition.
