Letter To Editor:
My Views On Music Festivals And Carnivals
6A Florence Ng Uen Man
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to express my opinions towards some recently-held large-scale
events. As the government is now consulting the public for more feedback on these
events, I would like to talk about the pros and cons of organizing these kinds of
music festivals or carnivals from a dweller’s perspective.
To begin with, these events have indeed
brought the entire city some benefits. They can
provide participants an amusing pastime over
the holiday. For instance, the AIA Carnival helped
recall my childhood memories with their game
stalls and merry-go-round. It is a good chance
for Hongkongers to destress as we are always
tensed living in such a fast-paced city. It also serves the function of a recreational
facility, providing a place of fun and games for families over the weekend.
Next, the music festivals can also help promote our local music. Take
Clockenflap as an example. Other than inviting foreign bands to perform, one of the
stages is dedicated to local bands. It is a platform for local singers to spread their
music, and also a golden opportunity for bands
to exchange their ideas on music. This can help
Hong Kong bands make their names abroad and
appeal to a wider market. Music from different
cultures can also be found in the festival, and
participants can go around the world listening to
bands from different places.
Although the above events can bring us countless benefits, they can also
cause nuisances to neighbouring residents like myself. I would like to talk about
how my daily life was affected by noise pollution and the large crowds attracted to
these events.
