                   An Invisible Helper – Facebook

For most teenagers, probably including you and me, always immersed in the
happiness of playing on Facebook. We inhale Facebook like air, needing it and
using it everywhere, all the time. Unconsciously,
Facebook has been eroding our life step by
step. In view of this, some claim that Facebook
can affect our real life. I strongly agree with
it since Facebook is actually changing our
lifestyle, ranging from an individual to the
          societal level.
To begin with, Facebook helps people to improve our society. Hong Kong
people are always blamed for political apathy, since they are over-concentrated on
their academic results or career in hopes of surviving in this highly competitive city.
It is difficult for them to have extra time to fully understand what is going on in our
society. However, Facebook has taken up a vital role in raising people’s awareness
on current affairs. For instance, the leader of many social movements, Joshua
Wong Chi-Fung, has fully utilized Facebook to spread his message. He opened a
group and showed web-users his dissatisfaction towards the HKSAR government’s
education policy. It provoked the majority of people to turn their eyes on to the
implementation of national education within a short time. Finally, Facebook has
successfully helped people gather and amalgamate a big power to fight against the
government. In fact, events like the Umbrella
Movement is just the tip of an iceberg to show
how Facebook can affect our life and influence
our thoughts, especially for the political aspect.
Occupy Central and expulsion of parallel traders
in Sheung Shui are also examples that give
evidence to its power, not to mention its influence
on global events like the Arab Spring.
Apart from the fact that Facebook can
raise people’s awareness of politics, it can also help people consolidate their
relationships. The highlight of Facebook is that you can upload photos of your daily
