Proposal: Helping Exchange Students
Learn About The Life In Hong Kong

Introduction
There will be 50 – 55 exchange students from the United States visiting our
city during the summer for about three weeks. Our organization aims to provide
them with an unforgettable experience to let them know more about Hong Kong.
We deeply hold the belief that it is of paramount importance for them to learn about
our local culture and spend more time with the locals during this special period. The
following three activities are proposed to achieve this purpose.
1. Watching street performances with local students
People all around the globe are always
under the impression that though Hong Kong
is an economic powerhouse, it lacks its own
unique cultural features. With a view to break
this stereotype, we can let the foreign students
watch busking performances which reflect
the local culture of our city. Busking usually
involves a great variety of performances, ranging
from singing canto-pop songs to playing Western music, from hip-hop dances to
Chinese traditional dances. Through appreciation of these shows, not only will the
foreign students stop holding the assertion that Hong Kong is a cultural desert, but
also know more about the local traditions when they communicate with the street
performers and the students from local schools.
To implement this idea, we can bring both the local and foreign students to
some public places where busking is usually held, such as Sai Yeung Choi Street in
Mong Kok. To let them experience the lively and exciting atmosphere of our city, we
suggest the activity be held on weekends when many other locals and visitors are
also watching the shows with enthusiasm.
2. Experiencing local food culture
Hong Kong is often hailed as a food paradise which offers visitors good-tasting
cuisines. People all around the world have always commented that the dishes here
