My Views On The School’s Lunch Policy
6D Gloria Yiu Chung Yan
Dear Principal,
I am writing to express my views on the new rule which limits students staying
on the school grounds at lunch time. As President of the Student’s Association,
and on behalf of the student body, I am extremely disappointed when I heard about
the new rule. After looking at how the new rule has been enforced for the past two
weeks, we hope we can persuade you to call off the rule based on the following
three reasons.
Firstly, the school should
not deprive student’s freedom of
where to have their lunch. In fact,
it is a basic human right to let
students have choices regarding
what they eat. However, the school caterer seems to have
no plans of letting us do so. It only provides four options and
the options would only be updated at the end of each month.
Besides, all of them are limited to Chinese cuisine like rice and steamed spare
ribs. To be blunt, we are eating the same boring food every day. We will lose our
appetite if we eat the same food every day. With most students losing interest in the
unappetizing food, it has created a lot of problems such as increased food waste.
However, if we are allowed to dine out, we will have abundant options. We can
choose cuisines from Western to Japanese, having food from pizzas to noodles, just
whatever we like. Moreover, we can enjoy our homemade lunch if we are allowed
to go home for lunch. Hence, the school should abolish the rule and let us choose
what we want.
Secondly, to compound the issue, the food quality of the
school caterer is worrying. Many students have complained
that the lunch boxes were lukewarm and tasteless. All of
the lunch boxes were premade at an off-campus facility and
they were placed in a plastic boxes for half an hour before
being consumed at lunch time, and worse still, they were
not reheated before being sold to students. Compared to
