Australian Excursion 2019
During May 2019 several students from our school joined
an English excursion to Sydney and Dungog, New South
Wales, Australia. Although students spent a couple of
wonderful days exploring around the picturesque Sydney
Harbour, the unanimous feeling of participants was that
the highlight of the trip was the homestays and school
placement in Dungog. Indeed, the warm country hospitality
shown to the group made this an unforgettable experience
for all.
The aim of this excursion is to take this rare opportunity to improve our English
speaking and at the same time gain an in-depth understanding of a foreign
culture personally. For my part, to enhance my English skills is of prime concern
in joining this excursion. As a matter of fact, the trip to Australia did inspire me
to spend more time in learning English, especially in spoken English.
What impressed me most about the excursion is the school life of local
students. Compared to Hong Kong schools, the mode of learning at the local
schools in Dungog is remarkably different. In Hong Kong, the only aim for
students to go to school is to achieve higher scores in tests; consequently,
students are always under the pressure of study, whereas the students in
Dungog are really carefree. Nevertheless, I’m not sure if it is a blessing or curse
for the students there, because I’m afraid they might not be very competitive in
this cutthroat world we live in now.
All things considered, I’m quite satisfied with this excursion. I’ve made
many new friends in Australia and learned so many interesting things about
Australia. It is undoubtedly a precious experience in my student life.
