Crossroads

This year, 10 people went to Crossroads for
Discovery Week. We spent the week with actual
volunteers, helping them with daily tasks like
packing boxes, sorting clothing and assembling
furniture. Volunteering is a gruelling process,
and help is often short, so this was an eye-
opening experience into dedicating your time to
        help others.

We also participated in a number of simulations:
we pretended to be slum-dwellers making paper
bags, walked through a course totally blind, and
immersed ourselves in the lives of individuals
        who may have contracted HIV/AIDS.

Overall, this taught us that volunteering is quite
a taxing process, and we gained a newfound
respect for those who worked there. We also
learned that, even though we may just be
individual students, we can still come together
        and make a difference.

“The best way to find yourself is to
lose yourself in the service of others.”
                                                                                     – Mahatma Gandhi

            “ That’s why
            we’re here on
            this Earth for,
            to help others”
              – Betty Ford
