Put Public In Driving Seat

There has been a heated debate over Uber, a mobile phone application for
the general public to hire private cars and drivers like a taxi service. The biggest
argument that many goes against
Uber is that they lack regulation
and the drivers do not have a taxi
license. However, I would have to
disagree with their stance.
Uber is a good way to allow
people to go somewhere just
by tapping on the phone. It is
absolutely more convenient than
before. Now, people can call an Uber car at their demand and they have better
control of the time. Very often, taxis are hard to get in Hong Kong, and even if you
manage to get one, the driver may refuse to take you to your destination. Some
drivers may have a bad attitude and may take a more circuitous route in order to
earn more. Uber can solve this problem as there is a service record on the app.
The price is regulated and the passengers can give a rating to the driver after the
service.
Some people are worried that the Uber service is not covered by proper
insurance and the passengers may be at risk when using it. If accidents happen,
the passengers may have to bear a high medical cost. The only solution is for the
government to legalize the operation. This way, insurance companies will be able
to work with Uber so that Uber
passengers can get a certain extent
of coverage.
As for the quality of service,
Uber should set some quality tests
for the registered drivers so that
they are up to standard. If they can
pass a certain test, they can be
allowed to take passengers or set
