Teenage Health Issues
4B Annie Tam Man Yi
I have been doing some research lately and
according to my findings, teenagers are spending
less time exercising than before. There are also two
trends that show that this situation will worsen and
may lead to serious health problems. I would now
like to share some of my thoughts on this issue and
provide some suggestions on how we can solve
these problems.
First of all, let us look at the reasons behind
this phenomenon. As a student in Hong Kong,
I understand that we are busy with endless
presentations, homework, examinations, etc. These are some of the many reasons
why we are so busy. I have a friend who is getting ready for the IELTS exam and
he has been studying very hard for months! He has never hung out with his friends
during his preparation and he never gets a chance to take a break. He told me that
he used to go to the gym a lot and was in a Hong Kong rugby team. However, the
examination has stopped him from doing this. So, I think this is the biggest reason
why teenagers do less exercise than before.
Secondly, I think laziness is a problem.
People work hard in the city. They wake up
early and get off work late. Since they are
so tired, all they want to do after they get
home is just lie on the sofa or on the bed
and relax after a long tiring day. They all
forget about exercising. A friend of mine studies at school from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and
then goes to work at a part time job until 11 p.m. She never really has any time to
exercise. When she gets time off, she does not want to exercise. Instead, she only
wants to have fun.
Thirdly, Hong Kong is small but there are a lot of people who live here.
Sometimes there is only one basketball court or football field in the community you
